In my blog post, “You Can’t Mediate Alone,” I spell out the dangers of not having a lawyer’s advice during and after mediation. Client’s understand more about their case and proceed much faster when they have had the benefit of a consultation with a family lawyer. Coming to the table knowing your rights and responsibilities saves time and money and gives clients a much better chance of a successful mediation. Finally, mediators are neutral;they do not represent either spouse or partner and do not advocate for a particular position or result. Clients need to do their homework first to make smart choices and financial decisions during the mediation process.
